Low Carb and Keto Diet

For a long time they tried to persuade me to write about my diet, and how I lost 17 kg last year. I promise, I don't sell any pills, and I don't sell any chemicals either. And in general, I am for a healthy natural lifestyle, without chemicals.

I'd better start from the very beginning. I started having migraines when I was 15 years old. At first sometimes, and then it got to the point where it was every day and all day. Yes, so strong that even crawling to the toilet was torture, it was painful to think... This was not life, I crawled through life, covering my eyes with a pillow.

My then-boyfriend took me to a neurologist, who started prescribing me pills: some didn’t help at all, and some reduced my migraines from 30 a month to 25. But already the result! I could live 5 days a month!

I don’t remember how, but I came across an advertisement for a free online conference about migraines (in English, I highly recommend it, they happen every year www.migraineworldsummit.com). I thought that it wouldn’t hurt me if I listened to it, it’s free anyway, and what if they tell me something interesting. And then I heard about this diet!

Yes, of course, you will say, everyone’s migraines are different, and you will be right! You need to listen to your body, how it reacts to what. If anyone has any kind of intolerance (to lactose, nuts or anything else, of course you don’t need to eat this, you can always get around this diet somehow).

When I heard that you need to eat a LOT of FAT, what is fat? Calories! I've never been skinny, but I thought if I got fat, I'd get rid of migraines, oh well! I’ll be fat, but I’ll be a human being, and not in bed all day in pain! But somehow it turned out that that’s why I was overweight all my life, because I ate the other way around! So...

The main bases of this diet are:

Briefly: you can eat meat (a lot!)/fish/eggs + salad (from vegetables that grow ABOVE the ground).

Longer:

In principle, you can cook the meat however you want, but the fattier it is, the better, you can even put a spoonful of butter on top. Salads can be very different - I really love shredding cabbage, adding everything I have in the house (a couple of slices of cucumber, green onions, a little green sweet pepper, dill...). Drizzle olive oil over the salad is the way to go, but you can use others as well. I often use fragrant sunflower, although they say it’s not very keto, but oh well.

Eat cheeses for breakfast (the fewer carbohydrates they contain, the better, the package usually says 100g), eggs, bacon (or even better, homemade! I’ll post the recipe later ;)). If you want to make your own low-carb bread from flax seeds, it’s very tasty and healthy, and for breakfast with butter and cheese, and with a fried egg, and coffee with cream (or coconut milk! Because COW’S MILK IS NOT OK!) They say it’s better not to bread in general, but how is BREAKFAST WITHOUT BREAD?! So? I eat it, but from flaxseeds. I've been eating all this time and nothing!

You can forget about the number of calories AT ALL.

Oh, Sugar, my life, my destiny!

Sugar is not allowed on this diet. At all. NEVER! Not once a month, not once a year... I have a sweet tooth. Well, how did I live without sugar? You can eat sweeteners - erythritol and/or stevia (they are often made as a mixture of the two, which is not as nasty as stevia alone). Mine, it tastes 100% like regular sugar, looks like sugar, and the proportions are even like sugar, but it costs, bastard (!) €9.99 for a 450g bag! You won’t be able to overeat too many sweets here!

How to live without sugar?

When I gave up sugar (which I fucking only ate once or twice a week!) it was terrible! I was shaking like a junkie who needed a fix. My brain didn’t work, I was weak, I couldn’t think about anything except how to eat something sweet. Well, nothing, it took a week or two. And the delights of life without sugar began - my brain began to work as in my most productive years of life (I was 10 years younger and better!), pain began to disappear - in my back, in my knees, and most importantly, I only had 9 migraines that month ! From 25 migraines I suddenly jumped to 9! And they weren’t as bad as before the diet started.

Fruits?!

Almost nothing is allowed - it is sugar by nature, in short, you can have berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries...). Long, will be the next post!

The difference between the simple low-carb and strict keto diets

And the difference between a simple low-carb and strict keto diet is only in the number of carbohydrates consumed per day. On a strict keto diet this is up to 20 grams of carbohydrates, and on a simple, low carbohydrate diet it is 20–70 grams - this one is more “relaxed”.

But in principle, this is not a diet at all. Because you can get away with sweets. Yes, you can have sweets, and only with a sweetener instead of sugar, but only periodically, say once a week, or less often.

And in terms of food - every recipe, is simply delicious! I have never eaten SO TASTY in my life as I do now!

You may start thinking about going on this “diet” by simply frying any meat or fish. And as a side dish, a salad, fill it well with sunflower or olive oil, and don’t forget various natural spices (without chemical additives, any kind of EE, and sugar).
